Creations for your sassy pumpkin

Hey y’all!!!  I am so excited to be a part of Little Lizard King‘s Blog Tour, featuring the new pattern, The Pocket Romper! I have a little confession to make. I have never put my baby girl in a bubble romper. I know, BIG intake of air and the thoughts “and you call yourself a boutique seamstress, humphf, not putting your baby in a ruffly bubble romper, what were you thinking??!!” Yes, I know, it is a huge shocker. It was never because they aren’t cute – because oh my word they are!!!!  My girl has never been a “woven” fabric kind of girl. She tolerates it for pictures and maybe for church. It made me so sad to not put her in them when she was a teee tiny baby. Can I blame her? I prefer my comfy yoga pants to just about any other article of clothing on earth. No wonder she loves her princess tees and leggings. She learned from the best!!! But alas, I thought of a compromise. What about a bubble romper in KNIT?!?! Do I hear redemption?! Do I get my boutique seamstress card back?! Woot!!

Happy Monday Folks!!!  It is now officially spring here in good ole’ NC!! And along with spring, comes spring cleaning. UGH!!!  Well, to be perfectly honest, I am more about organizing and “pretty-fiying” than I am cleaning. One of my major projects over the last few months was cleaning out all of the baby stuff from my house. Now that my kids are getting older (3 and 5), there is no more need for booster seats, high chairs, infant toys, etc. It felt soooo good to get a lot of that clutter out of my house. But, I got a few surprises in the process. Exhibit A: The seat cushions on my bar stools. This is where their booster seats were placed for the last 2-4 years (depending on which kid’s chair).

I can't believe it is April already!!! April, FOR REAL!!! Where has this year gone?? Before I know it I will wake up and it will be summer! I know y'all think I sit at my sewing machine all day long (don't I wish I could sew more than a few hours a day), but I really don't. One of the most important hats I wear is my "mommy" hat. And it is by far my favorite. I am a big time planner, and I like to get a game plan together for what the kids and I will do all summer. I make lists of things and then research them so we are ready for when the time comes. One of the things that made the list this year is the new aquarium at our local mall, Concord Mills. Sea Life is relatively new to our area and it is a perfect afternoon activity.

Have you ever gone into a store just to look and touch all of the beautiful things? Well, that is me and fabric.  I can spend hours in a fabric store just dreaming up what I could make with this, or that. And think to myself how pretty that particular fabric would look on my shelf, a.k.a. wall ‘o fabric. It is an illness, seriously. I am completely addicted to pretty fabric. On family trips I even look up all the fabric stores in that general area so I can relax in the gorgeousness!  While walking up and down the aisles, hands outstretched to touch each and every one, I sometimes wonder, how did the fabric designer come up with such inspirational designs??? And that question was answered for me when I went to my first sewing retreat back in March.

I can't believe it has been a year since The Sassy Pumpkin was started. It has been a whirlwind! I have learned so much about sewing, about business and mostly about myself in this journey. I thought it would be fun to play a few little first anniversary games. So be sure to keep up with them on facebook this week. There could be a few good surprises in the pipeline!! www.facebook.com/thesassypumpkin

In order to get started on our fun and frivolity for the week I thought a "get to know you" game was in order. When TSP first started all of my customers were friends, but now I have met so many new people over the year and a lot of you don't know me well or even at all. So my husband came up with an interview to get to know the "seamstress behind the machine".

There are so many ways to embellish and add personality to any outfit. One of my favorite ways is Applique. Where I do not do applique by hand, it is all done by machine, it is still so much fun to do. TSP can add appliques to tee shirts and onesies or to any customized outfit. The possibilities are endless! I thought I would share a few of the personalized appliques I have done.

SONY DSCWhat is cuter than a precious little girl and her doll? I'll tell you what!!! Having matching outfits! TSP had a great time working with the customer on this matching Pajama set for a sweet little girl and her doll. This custom order was for a special themed sleepover and it makes us feel so good to hear our little sassy pumpkins say "I feel happy and proud" about wearing our clothes.
